Institute of Neurosciences (INc)

The Institute of Neurosciences (INc) situated at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) is a research university center, with around 200 members, devoted to the investigation of the central nervous system from a multidisciplinary and translational approach. We explore all levels of biological organization: from molecular interactions to complex systems, using cell cultures, animal models or human beings. The final objective is to find new molecular, cellular, genetic and psychological therapies against nervous system pathologies.

Director of the center

Jesús Giraldo

  • Jesús Giraldo’s research is devoted to the understanding of G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) function by computational methods.
  • GPCRs are membrane proteins involved in many physiological functions and, thus, are the main target of current medicines.
  • Jesús Giraldo uses molecular dynamics simulations to analyze the conformational space of these receptors in response to neurotransmitters, hormones and synthetic ligands.
The project

Almost 70% of adults will suffer a highly stressful experience in their life. Stress and trauma are everywhere around us, affecting our body, brain, and emotions. During this project, students will learn about the impact of stress on the brain, using state-of-the-art techniques and collaborating with scientists in their day-to-day. Also, they will acquire data processing and analysis skills which are crucial for any modern scientist.
