Challenges

The BIYSC is a major Challenge in itself which, in turn, includes several personal and educational challenges which we trust our participants to overcome in order to successfully complete the program and take advantage of this great experience.

Each challenge represents an opportunity and a learning goal that BIYSC candidates are expected to achieve throughout the application process, participation in the summer program, and beyond. Successfully completing these challenges will provide students with advantageous personal life skills that will be truly valuable and that they will be able to use in their future academic and professional scientific journeys.

1st Challenge

BE AUTHENTIC

PERSONAL STATEMENT AND MOTIVATION LETTER

Students must write a personal statement, a motivation letter and create a short video that will enable them to stand out. We expect our participants to be authentic, original and to recognize and show their diverse talents and skills for their future personal, academic and professional success.

2nd Challenge

BE DETERMINED

RECOMMENDATION FROM A TEACHER OR MENTOR

Students must be confidentially recommended by one of their science teachers or mentors. We are very interested in what others think of them, their academic and social skills, their potential and what impact they have on others for who they are, and for their actions.

3rd Challenge

BE SMART

PERSONAL INTERVIEW WITH RESEARCHERS

Pre-selected candidates will be interviewed by researchers in charge of the scientific projects chosen during the application process. A perfect moment to show interests and skills in science and other disciplines, the motivation to join their team and research project, and what could be their contribution in this program.

4th Challenge

BE PASSIONATE

PARTICIPATION AT BIYSC

The selected participants become part of BIYSC! During the two-week residential program in Barcelona, participants will live a world-class experience by working hands-on on a scientific project of their choice, and attending scientific lectures and debates. While taking part in this experience, we want to encourage our students’ passion for pursuing scientific research and careers in science.

5th Challenge

BE AMBITIOUS

SCIENTIFIC PRESENTATION

As a fundamental part of science, students are encouraged to communicate and disseminate the knowledge acquired during BIYSC by preparing an oral presentation (on the last day of the program) and working on their own research project (after the program). We want them to be ambitious in their future careers and, above all, we want them to be prepared for everything they may have to overcome on their academic future and professional path.

6th Challenge

BE THE FUTURE

SCIENCE MOVES THE WORLD FORWARD, AND YOU ARE ITS FUTURE!

After completing the BIYSC, the next challenges are in the hands of the participants. We hope that BIYSC will inspire and empower them towards a bright future in science and research, and that they will devote their talents to making a better world. They will always have the support and network of the Catalunya La Pedrera Foundation Science Fellows Community that they will join after the BIYSC.
