In compliance with Act 34/2002, of 11 July 2002, on Information Society and Electronic Commerce Services (LSSICE), we inform you that this website (www.biysc.org) is an Internet domain linked to Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera, with VAT number G65345472, registered in the Registry of Foundations of the Generalitat de Catalunya on 23 January 2013 with number 2756 and business address in Passeig de Gràcia 92, 08008 Barcelona. To these effects, these terms and conditions govern the relationship between the user and Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera.
BARCELONA INTERNATIONAL YOUTH SCIENCE CHALLENGE AND THE USER
The Barcelona International Youth Science Challenge (hereinafter, BIYSC) is an educational scientific program organized by Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera. Our website offers a 24/7 online service to make payment of the program’s registration fee.
The use of our website assigns you a user status and implies acceptance of the provisions included herein, as well as all the terms and conditions of the program.
The user declares to have the necessary legal capacity to act and contract on the website in accordance with the conditions established below, which it declares to understand and accept.
The user agrees to use the services and content on our website in accordance with the Law and these terms and conditions, and may not use it for:
- Transferring the username and password to unauthorized third parties. In this case, the user must immediately notify Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera of any access to this information by an unauthorized user.
- Entering data programs on the network that could damage the computer systems of Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera, its suppliers, or third-party users of the internal network or of this website.
- Carrying out illegal activities, contrary to good faith, customs, morals, or public order.
- Carrying out activities that constitute an infringement of the regulations on intellectual and industrial property or any other rule of the applicable legal system.
- Reproducing, duplicating, selling or exploiting for commercial purposes any content on the website.
- Disseminating content of a racist, xenophobic, pornographic nature, advocating terrorism and/or violating human rights.
PARTICIPANT CODE OF CONDUCT
At BIYSC, we hold ourselves to the highest standards of quality in terms of organization, content and service. We also expect a high level of interest and motivation from the participants, both during the scientific program and in all other activities throughout the BIYSC. We expect all our participants to represent themselves, their family, their school, their country, and the BIYSC to the highest possible standard.
BIYSC participants are required to adhere to these general terms:
- Always be respectful. Please be advised that customs may be different from your home country, and you must respect the local traditions, rules, and obligations during the program.
- Always behave with self-discipline.
- Attend all BIYSC events and arrive punctually for all activities.
- Listen carefully to the information given by the BIYSC Staff Team.
- Provide notice and justified reasons for any absences to the BIYSC Staff Team.
- Discuss any problems that may arise with the BIYSC Staff Team.
- Always behave in a sociable manner, be polite, and try to talk to people involved in the program.
- Remember to eat sensibly and make sure you get the right amount of sleep.
To ensure the successful development of the program, guarantee respect for everyone involved, and get the most out of the experience, each participant must abide by our Code of Conduct for the duration of the program. The full BIYSC Code of Conduct will include specific terms and conditions that the selected participants and their parents/guardians must sign before attending the program.
USER IDENTIFICATION, PASSWORD, AND INFORMATION OF THE PAYMENT PROCESS
When the user registers for the BIYSC through the website, they must establish a username and a password which will be confirmed via e-mail. The user must duly keep the username and the password provided for access as a registered user. Since the credentials are personal and confidential the user is responsible for its use by any third party to whom they have provided access. The user is responsible for correctly providing the data in the payment processes established on the website of the program. PRIVACY POLICY OF THE USER
Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera, hereinafter the CONTROLLER for the purposes of the data processing provisions contained herein, is the Controller of the processing of the user’s personal data and informs the user that these data will be processed in accordance with the current regulations on data protection, Regulation (UE) 2016/697 of 27 April (GDPR) on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data and Organic Law (ES) 3/2018 of 5 December (LOPDGDD) on data protection and digital rights guarantee, so the following processing information is provided:
Purpose of the processing: management of the users’ registration fee payments. The actions planned for this processing are: (i) processing orders or any requests made by the user through any of the contact forms that are available to them, and (ii) handling the payment of the registration fee for the educational and training program.
Data retention criteria: personal data will be processed for as long as necessary to fulfill the purpose of the processing and/or until the data subject revokes their consent. Once the data is no longer necessary for such purpose, the data will be suppressed by blocking it during the time period established by law. During this time, technical and organizational measures will be taken to prevent any processing of the data, including its visualization. The data will only be available to judges, courts, public prosecutors, or public administrations, to fulfill legal obligations. Subsequently, after the suppression or blocking period, the data will be erased.
Rights assisting the data subject:right to access, rectification, portability, and erasure of the data and rights of restriction and objection to the processing of the data. Right to file a claim with the Supervisory Authority (www.aepd.es) if you consider that the processing does not conform to the current regulations. PAYMENT POLICY
The total amount of the registration fee (3.200€ for 2025 BIYSC edition) can be paid in full or separately (a first non-refundable payment and a final payment).
In case the participation fee is paid separately:
- The first payment of 1.280€ must be made within 10 days of receiving the acceptance email to the program.
- The second payment of 1.920€.
Candidates who do not pay within the deadlines will be automatically excluded from the program. Please check here the key deadlines dates for payments according to the calls.
Only payments via online or virtual TPV (credit or debit card), a payment gateway that allows for easy and secure payments are accepted. Bank transfers are only accepted in cases of justified technical problems via online. Bank charges are not accepted so please ensure the full amount reaches Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera.
The prices are in Euros and are in force at the time of enrollment in the educational and training program. In compliance with Law 37/1992 of December 28 on Value Added Tax (Article 20, Section 1, Number 9), VAT will not be applied to enrollment fees for educational programs. Therefore, the final prices shown on screen are exempt from VAT. Any other tax, at the current rate, legally required at the time of registration or payment may apply to the specified prices.
CANCELLATION POLICIES
If the participant chooses to withdraw from the program voluntarily, Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera will not refund any of the payments already made.
Any cancellation made after June 9th, 2025, will incur the full participation fee.
Cancellations will only be accepted in case of justified causes, such as serious illness of the participant (official written medical proof will be required).
Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera may only request accrediting documentation from the participant in cases where cancellation is claimed to be due to sufficiently justified personal reasons, or in those cases not specified in this document. Each case will be evaluated individually, and the decision of Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera will be final.
If the cancellation is due to legal mobility restrictions resulting from legal situations decreed by the participant’s country of origin or by the countries of transit or destination, Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera will reimburse the amounts paid, except for 15% of the program fee, corresponding to management and organization expenses.
As a general rule, Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera reserves the right to modify, unilaterally and for justified reasons, any aspect that affects the sessions of the training program, without generating any right to a refund of the amounts paid by the participant or their parents or legal guardians.
Cancellation of the program by Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera
If Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera, due to internal causes, must cancel the program definitively and completely once payment has been made, and if the program cannot be run in another format, or on a different place or different dates, the refund of 100% of the amounts paid will be reimbursed, covering the period until the time of cancellation. These amounts will be refunded using the same method used for payment.
Cancellation of the program due to force majeure or situations not attributable to either the participant or Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera.
Force majeure means any unforeseeable, unavoidable, and overwhelming situation or event beyond the control of the parties (e.g., war, revolution, terrorist acts, border closures, epidemics, natural disasters, etc.). If Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera faces a situation of force majeure that affects the development or continuity of the program, all those participants affected will be notified immediately, specifying the nature, effects, duration of the situation, if possible, and the measures that will be taken to deal with the force majeure situation.
MANDATORY OR OPTIONAL NATURE OF THE INFORMATION PROVIDED BY THE USER
Users, by checking the corresponding boxes and by voluntarily entering their data in the fields marked with an asterisk (*) in the contact form, expressly, freely, and unequivocally accept that their data is necessary to meet their request by the provider. The user guarantees that the personal data provided to the CONTROLLER is true and is responsible to communicate any modification thereof.
Users are hereby informed and expressly guaranteed that their personal data will not be transferred to third parties unless there is a legal obligation to do so, or to affiliated companies for administrative or internal management purposes or those providers linked to the CONTROLLER that act as data processors. Whenever it is necessary to transfer personal data, the user will always be informed and asked to provide their consent for the transfer. All data requested through the website is mandatory, as it is necessary for the provision of an optimal service to the user. In the event that not all data is provided, there is no guarantee that the information and provided services will be completely adapted to the user’s needs.
SECURITY MEASURES
In accordance with the current regulations on data protection, the CONTROLLER complies with all the GDPR and LOPDGDD provisions for the processing of the personal data, and with the principles established in section 5 of the GDPR, by which the personal data is processed lawfully, loyally, and transparently regarding the user, and the data are appropriate, relevant, and limited to what is necessary in relation to the purposes of the processing.
The CONTROLLER guarantees that technical and organisational policies are implemented to apply the security measures established by the GDPR to protect the rights and freedoms of the users, and that they have been provided with the appropriate information so they can exercise them.
EXEMPTION FROM LIABILITY
Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera disclaims any liability arising from the information published on the website if such information has been manipulated or published by a third party.
GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS CLAUSE
If any provision of these terms and conditions is declared, in whole or in part, null or ineffective, it will be considered as not included herein, without altering the validity of other provisions.
APPLICABLE LAW
The user accepts that the applicable law to the functioning of this service is Spanish Law. The competent courts and tribunals to know discrepancies arising from the interpretation or application of these terms and conditions will be those located nearest to Barcelona.
The contents, products and services included on the website comply with Spanish legislation, and they are not conceived nor directed to those people who reside in jurisdictions where their contents are not duly authorized.
REVIEW OF THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera reserves the right to review and modify these conditions at any time. The user will be subject to the policies and conditions in force at the time they use this website, unless by law or decision of public authorities we must make changes retroactively to these policies or conditions.
