Centre de Recerca Matemàtica (CRM)

Founded in 1984, the Centre de Recerca Matemàtica (CRM) is Spain’s oldest mathematics research institute. Located at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and part of the CERCA network, it fosters cutting-edge research across a broad range of mathematical disciplines. Its activities span from pure and applied mathematics to interdisciplinary collaborations in biology, neuroscience, and climate science. CRM hosts international programs, supports young researchers, and promotes the transfer of mathematical knowledge to society. With a strong focus on excellence and innovation, it serves as a key hub connecting the Catalan and international mathematical communities.

Excellence and recognition awards

In 2020, the CRM was honored with the “Unit of Excellence Maria de Maeztu” Award from the Spanish Research Agency (AEI), aimed at recognizing public research organizations, in any scientific area, that stand out due to the relevance and impact of the results obtained during the previous reference period at an international level. It is the second time that the CRM has received this recognition.
